JSX "Experiment" Now Operating

three Daily Roundtrip Flights From SMO

On January 22nd service to Scottsdale began, along with a second Vegas flight. A third Vegas flight begins February 5. More routes are on the drawing board. A second aircraft, also holding 30 passengers, will be added soon.

JSX has wasted no time rapidly expanding what their C.E.O. has referred to as an experiment — an experiment our neighborhoods did not sign up to participate in. Our CEQA lawsuit is the only tool left to shine some light on this project, and add transparency before this experiment grows out of control.

Lawsuit Update

We recently filed an amended lawsuit that now includes the JSX lease that was not yet signed when we originally filed. We had no idea at that time that the lease included 24,000 square feet of gate and terminal space at the end of 31st Street. The next step is a status conference with the judge on February 19th at which time the case will be scheduled for hearing. In the meantime the opposition will likely attempt to delay the case.

Many of you have stepped up with donations and time to support our legal effort. As with any legal action, no promises can be made about outcomes. But one thing is clear: without this lawsuit, there would be nothing in place, short of a failed experiment, to limit commercial flights out of Santa Monica.

 

 

Actions

We still need your help to defend Measure LC and keep closure on schedule. There is little doubt aviation interests prefer to see closure delayed whether by a new agreement or a ballot measure. We have shown that the majority of residents want the airport closed, and the visioning process has shown the majority wants to see the park. We have been waiting 80 years for the return of the great park purchased in 1926.

The most important thing right now is awareness. Talk about this. Share it. Help make sure it doesn't stay invisible until it's too late.

 

We are growing stronger, but it is critical to spread the word. Many people still do not know this is happening. We can only continue with a village behind us. This is about quality of life for ourselves and future generations.
