Measure LC Defense

governing principles

MEASURE LC DEFENSE was formed on November 10, 2025 for the common purposes of:

1. Protecting and preserving the City of Santa Monica’s right, as established under the Consent Decree filed on January 30, 2017, to, at any time on or after January 1, 2029, cease to operate the Santa Monica Airport as an airport and close the Airport to all aeronautical use forever.

2. Advancing the public’s original intent for this land — purchased by Santa Monica residents in 1926 for parks and public recreation — by promoting its transformation into a sustainable, inclusive Great Park that restores open space, protects the environment, and serves the well-being of present and future generations. In all such efforts, MEASURE LC DEFENSE is committed to upholding the spirit of Measure LC of ensuring that the airport land remains dedicated to parks, public open space, and public recreational uses as approved by the voters of Santa Monica.

3. Informing and educating the residents of the cities of Santa Monica and Los Angeles impacted by current and future aeronautical uses of the Santa Monica Airport about operations-permit and leasing decisions made by City of Santa Monica officials, employees, or agents (elected, appointed, or staff) for such uses.

4.Defending and enforcing the rights of the residents of the cities of Santa Monica and Los Angeles impacted by current and future aeronautical uses of the Santa Monica Airport, to participate in democratic institutions and hold local officials, employees, and agents accountable, including through court actions challenging City of Santa Monica operations-permit and leasing decisions for planned aeronautical uses made in violation of federal, state or local laws, or through the People’s initiative and referendum powers under the Constitution of the State of California
